Laser Skin Resurfacing

Decreased production of collagen and elastin is a major characteristic of aging skin, which can contribute to a number of aesthetic concerns. By stimulating cell regeneration and the production of important proteins from deep within the dermis, including collagen and elastin, laser skin resurfacing can help heal prominent scarring, smooth your skin’s surface and bring back a healthy glow.

Our Studio City medical spa offers a variety of rejuvenating treatments for the face, including laser skin resurfacing. Our Aesthetic Nurses will help you understand your options for laser skin resurfacing and map out a plan that fits your needs.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Laser skin resurfacing works by gently heating the underlying layers of skin to stimulate the natural healing cycle of the dermis. This means your skin and the underlying tissue will start to generate new, healthy cells, healing damaged or scarred skin and producing plenty of healthy proteins.

Before Your Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment

Prior to starting your laser skin resurfacing treatments, you’ll have a private consultation with one of our Aesthetic Nurses. During this time, you can talk about your goals for facial rejuvenation and learn more about the kinds of results you can expect.

While most people have laser resurfacing performed on their face, you can ask about other areas you might like to have rejuvenated, such as the décolletage or hands.

Your Aesthetic Nurse might also recommend some additional treatments for reaching your appearance goals. For instance, an IPL photofacial can heal sun damage and some types of pigmented lesions.

For those looking for a gentler resurfacing option, Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser Resurfacing or Laser Genesis™ laser facials can be good options for healing surface skin problems with less downtime.

Your Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure

Your laser resurfacing appointment will begin by numbing your skin with a topical numbing cream. Once you’re ready for treatment, your Aesthetic Nurse will pass a handheld device over your skin, which will emit laser energy to various depths in the dermis. You will likely feel a warming sensation, but most people don’t find the procedure itself to be painful.

Your Recovery & Results

Laser skin resurfacing doesn’t require much downtime, but you can expect your face to appear red and puffy for the first few days after your treatment. For this reason, many people schedule their appointment during a time when they can spend at least 3 to 5 days away from social activities. You should also stay out of direct sun exposure, as your skin will be hypersensitive to any environmental damage while you heal.

Your results should develop gradually over the coming weeks and months. You should notice your skin appearing more even-toned, with a smoother and firmer texture.

You may notice a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles, scarring and hyperpigmentation. Most people schedule a series of 3 to 5 laser resurfacing treatments spaced about 2 to 3 months apart.
